Loft Insulation Services

The Energy Saving Trust says an uninsulated home loses around 25% of its heat through the roof, so loft insulation is one of the simplest ways to cut heat loss. Most lofts are insulated with mineral wool laid between and over the ceiling joists; converted lofts are usually insulated at the rafters with boards or other products. Better Lofts can put you in touch, through Better Home Hub, with an installer who covers your area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I save on energy bills with loft insulation?

It depends on your home, how much insulation is there now and how you heat it. As one example, the Energy Saving Trust estimates that topping up loft insulation from around 120mm to 270mm saves about £17 a year in Great Britain (last updated May 2026). Insulating a loft that has little or none saves more. Savings are estimates, not guarantees.

Are there grants available for loft insulation?

Some households may qualify for funded insulation. ECO4, run through energy suppliers for low-income and vulnerable households, runs until 31 December 2026 after a nine-month extension (Ofgem). The Great British Insulation Scheme closed on 31 March 2026. The Energy Saving Trust says the government's Warm Homes Plan is due to bring fully funded support for people on low incomes and low-interest loans for other homeowners, with details still to come. Eligibility is never guaranteed, and Better Lofts does not assess eligibility or make grant applications.
