Loft Boarding & Storage

Partial Loft Boarding

Partial loft boarding covers part of the loft — often a walkway from the hatch and a storage area in the middle — for less than the cost of boarding the whole space. It is a practical option if you only need some storage. The same points apply as for full boarding: keep the insulation depth, leave a ventilation gap and do not overload the joists.

What to Know About Partial Loft Boarding

  • Lower cost than boarding the whole loft
  • A walkway and storage area where you need them
  • Raised boards help keep the insulation at full depth
  • Often a short job in a straightforward loft
  • A ladder or hatch upgrade is usually priced separately

Frequently Asked Questions

How much of the loft is covered with partial boarding?

It is up to you and your installer. Checkatrade's June 2026 guide prices a raised boarding system for about 15m² at around £750–£1,350, which is roughly a walkway plus a storage area in many lofts.
