A ladder can be fitted on its own or as part of a boarding job; moving or enlarging a hatch costs extra because it involves altering the ceiling.

Often, yes, but it means cutting the ceiling and joists, which need to be properly supported. Checkatrade's June 2026 guide puts relocating a loft hatch, including repairing the old opening, at about £260–£550. Ask the installer how they will support the joists around the new opening.
