Velux / Rooflight
A Velux (rooflight) loft conversion works within the existing roof shape and adds roof windows to bring in light. Because the outline of the roof stays the same, it is usually the least expensive type of conversion and often does not need planning permission, although building regulations approval is still required. It only suits lofts that already have enough head height — commonly quoted as around 2.2 metres or more from the top of the ceiling joists to the underside of the ridge.
