Velux / Rooflight
A Velux (rooflight) loft conversion is the simplest and most affordable way to convert your loft. It works with the existing roof structure and adds high-quality roof windows to flood the new space with natural light. Because the roofline stays unchanged, planning permission is rarely needed, and the work can typically be completed in three to four weeks. Ideal for properties with sufficient existing head height.
Why Choose Velux / Rooflight?
- Most affordable loft conversion type — lowest cost per m²
- No changes to the external roofline, so planning permission is usually not required
- Fastest completion time — typically 3 to 4 weeks
- High-quality Velux windows provide excellent natural light and ventilation
- Minimal disruption to daily life during the build
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my loft suitable for a Velux conversion?
A Velux conversion requires a minimum head height of around 2.2 metres at the ridge. The existing roof structure must also be sound. We carry out a free loft assessment to confirm suitability before quoting.
Do I need planning permission for a Velux loft conversion?
In most cases, a Velux conversion falls under permitted development and does not require planning permission. However, if your property is in a conservation area, is a listed building, or has already used its permitted development allowance, you may need to apply. We advise on this during the initial survey.
